Dojo Discernments
Hi all! Welcome to this week's edition of Dojo Discernments where I share nuggets of thought earned on the mats.
What's to Come
10th Planet San Clemente is coming soon, how soon? I will leave that in God's hands and timing.I am cultivating and praying for those doors to open.
Here's a sneak peak at a couple of "moons" or logos for the academy. Let me know what you think.

What I'm Thinking
The golden spiral is nature’s architecture design: the order of creation found in waves, tornadoes, galaxies. Numerically, it’s known as the Fibonacci sequence, 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, it’s a pattern of balance and growth.
I use this idea to bring symmetry and aesthetic into my jiu-jitsu. I see it in my guillotine; the wrist coming to centerline, the oblique crunch, the legs pulling in; everything coiling toward one point.
I see it in thought, too; keeping ideas organized, not letting them spiral out of control.
Once you see it,
follow it,
honor it,
create it.

What I'm Practicing
Form. After 10,000 reps of something, say a collar elbow tie. You memorize the feel. It's like a well worn suit that fits perfect.
Ask yourself, what is in your form? After your technique is perfect that is, what is left? Mercy, Peace, Power is what I aim for.
What do you want to fill your form with?
What is beyond, behind, and left after your technique?
Quote I'm Pondering
That there are few men who are able to cut well in beheadings is further proof that men's courage has waned- Hagakure 1716
To be able to cut well in a beheading is the practice of the samurai. One that I aim for within jiu-jitsu.
Other Quote I'm Pondering
You can have all that you want, just can't have anything you want.
Echoes the truth of satisfaction and fufillment over indulgence.
I pray this newslettter leaves you well,
Isaac
