Dojo Discernments
Hi all!
Welcome to this week's edition of dojo discernments, where I share nuggets of thought developed on the mats
What I Saw
Some time ago I heard Ryan Aitken share the concept of consolidation. The concept impacted me powerfully.
From thinking, to grappling, to stand up, to passing, to guard play; all ideas should flow as such that intertwine and coalesce into one another.
Not leaving empty ends, but linked and congruent.
Explanation
This week, in conversation with my coach Balmore, the idea of Logos came up.
Logos is the word that, in Christian belief, explains the perfect logic and design of creation. There is a rationale woven into everything.
Maybe that’s why grappling resonates with us so deeply. There’s an observable logic to it, a fitting order we can feel as we train.
And likewise, when I step back and observe the world, I see the same great rationale tying it all together.
What I'm Thinking
My mind is a still pond
It rises and falls
But does not ripple
That image has become more than poetry, it’s my antidote for my epilepsy: tranquility in chaos. And Chirst is the wellspring of the pond.
Shirt I'm Wearing
Life goals achieved.
We are no longer a 135 bantamweight, but are now a 145 featherweight for the remainder of the year until December for IBJJF nogi worlds!
Also we started concealed carrying on the daily.
With these two things I've had to pick up some new Large t-shirts. A great to excuse to pick up this new "It's All Grappling T-Shirt"
Feels great, sparks conversation, and carries a message I aim to embody.
Check it Out
I’ve been in the lab building a tool for you guys. My goal is an interactive learning model that shows where your entire game fits together.
This first step is a beta version: a flowchart overlay model that helps visualize how knowledge is mentally stored. Right now it's random information, but the final version will map actual grappling pathways.
Create a log in, peruse, let me know what you think in the comments.
