Dojo Discernments
Hi all! Welcome to your weekly dose of Dojo Discernments where I share nuggets of thought gleaned on the mats!
What I'm Practicing
Rest: You cannot perform at your very best if you are always taxing yourself. Whether it's on the mats, in your work, or just navigating life consistent output requires consistent recovery.
That daily reset is what keeps you sharp, focused, and dangerous in the long run.
What I'm Watching
John "Sheriff of Baghdad" Mcfee on the Shawn Ryan Podcast
If you want a swift kick up the ass of motivation, discipline, and laughs here it is. John is a Delta Force operator, crème de la crème, who ran solo missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Wild and unheard of.
Technique Insight
K Guard is deeply entrenched within the new meta of Jiu-Jitsu today with every gym practicing it now. The origins of the name may be unbeknownst to you though. K Guard is named after its namesake and originator Karo Parisyan. Karo fought professional MMA displaying incredible Judo, Triangles, and of course, a great K Guard. So if you don't know, now you know.
Stick to the Basics
With some disappointing news coming out of the Jiu-Jitsu community this week, it’s a good time to double down and reaffirm what matters.
Solid character. Clear technique. Good decisions. You don’t need to chase noise to grow. The basics, on and off the mat, will always be the foundation.
You can lose a kingdom in a moment.
Have a Ritual
Coffee and the Bible in the morning. Every morning. It keeps me on track. What do you do everyday that keeps you on track? If you don't have something like that, I encourage you to establish that ritual for yourself that anchors you onto the path of righteousness.
May this weeks newsletter shift you one degree closer to where you intend to go.
