Dojo Discernments
Hi all! Here is this week's edition of Dojo Discernments, a collection of thoughts earned on the mats this week!
My Favorite Throw
Overhook Kosoto Gake/Polish Throw
The overhook position in standing grappling is largely a defensive position with uchi mata being your major attack! By learning this technique, so many angles and threats become avialable. What was a limited position now can become a dominant one!
Configuration
Jiu-Jitsu can be a lot, when you try to to absorb it all at once. It can be overwhelming. Good thing we’re not tasked with figuring it all out at once.
Rather we can take our focus and put it onto one single point of focus and refine it in the moment.
We focus on one point at a time, making sure they fit as a whole within the system. Over time, they add up to a cohesive system.
Technique Study
How do we get to North/South
How do we beat K Guard
How do we beat guard recoveries
Reverse Grip!
Such a simple answer that opens so many closed doors!
Reflections
This past weekend I went out to Vegas to coach a couple of students at the biggest jiu-jitsu tournament in the world by participation—JJ Con IBJJF, with 13,000 competitors, followed right after by CJI.
It was the largest event I’ve ever been to, and honestly, I left feeling disappointed.
Disappointed at how far the culture that was practiced and celebrated there runs against the values and standards I hold as respectable.
But there’s no use just pointing out the gap. The next step is to take action.
Supplement I'm Taking
I've talked about this supplement before, but it is treating me so good once again! In bed by 8:15 like my elementrary school days! Refreshed and ready to teach a kickin' 6am class. If you've been having difficulty sleeping, check out this Soflete supplement!
Looking to have the North/South Instructional out next week! Keep your eyes peeled! đź‘€
